The Planet Mark Story
The Planet Mark story begins in 2012, when Steve Malkin, CEO of Planet First and founder of The Planet Mark, was introduced to Sir Tim Smit KBE, co-founder of The Eden Project. Over the following months, they discussed how they might create a truly effective people-driven sustainability programme for any organisation of any size, any sector, any place in the world.
In Spring 2013 this vision became a reality when both parties committed to a new venture, The Planet Mark in partnership with the Eden Project.
Since then, The Planet Mark has developed into an internationally-recognised and trusted sustainability certification that is helping more than 100 organisations, including businesses, charities, schools, hospitals and infrastructure.
Our mission is to empower organisations and their people to make year-on-year progress on sustainability. Our approach is to ensure they grow economically by improving their environmental and social performance.
In addition, our unique approach develops knowledge and communication skills within holders of The Planet Mark, which each have access to a comprehensive set of toolkits to make sustainability easy and straightforward to embed in their organisation.
It is a low resource programme that is proven to work. On average, holders of The Planet Mark make a 12% carbon saving each year per employee through energy use, waste, water, travel and procurement.
We are bringing sustainability and the values of the Eden Project into the heart of organisations. Together we are working to put climate change and the environment at the top of the business agenda.
