Greenbuild Expo returns alongside new show, Buildings & Energy Efficiency

Greenbuild Expo

Greenbuild Expo 2015 is the premier exhibition for the sustainable built environment professional, and, new for this year, it will run alongside the new Buildings & Energy Efficiency Event, a show dedicated to helping businesses meet their energy efficiency objectives.

Returning for its sixth year, Greenbuild Expo takes place at Manchester Central on the 10-11th November 2015. Greenbuild Expo will continue its emphasis on promoting sustainable building practices and on tackling some of the important issues of our time, such as building high quality and sustainable housing, refurbishing the current stock and eradicating fuel poverty.

New for 2015, the Buildings & Energy Efficiency (B&EE) Event will take place alongside Greenbuild Expo. The Buildings & Energy Efficiency (B&EE) Event will focus on promoting energy efficiency in Britain’s commercial building stock, including large volume housing.

With new regulations such as MEPS and ESOS and the inevitable rise in energy bills bound to affect British business, B&EE will help building designers, contractors, building managers and owners understand how to get to grips with energy efficiency and better performance in buildings.

Commercial and domestic buildings in this country will have to improve their performance, both in terms of building new buildings and refurbishing old ones. Linking sustainability and energy efficiency is essential to this improvement. Together, Greenbuild Expo and the Buildings & Energy Efficiency Event will show how this can be achieved. The combined shows will provide the ideal environment to learn of best practice, discover innovative new products and solutions, examine case studies, develop new business relationships and hear more about the latest building regulations.

Featuring dedicated seminar sessions from organisations such as the PassivHaus Trust, Planet First, CBxchange and the Zero Carbon Hub and debates hosted by Future Cities Catapult, the conference programme for both shows will be packed with experts ready to share their knowledge and give insights that could help with your project.

Bywaters working to achieve The Planet Mark

Bywaters is the first large scale waste management and recycling services company to join the Planet Mark.

Whilst achieving The Planet Mark, Bywaters will work with Planet First to see how sustainability can be improved within their business. Ensuring that all new initiatives fit in with the culture of a company is vital for the successful reduction of their carbon footprint and it is a challenge they are ready for.

We first met Bywaters whilst working together on an Occupier Sustainability Programme with Land Securities and it was here that we realised how our businesses could benefit from each other. Being a waste management facility, they felt that it was particularly important to realise their impact on the planet.

“Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility are central to Bywaters’ core business operations and we pride ourselves on providing a sustainable zero direct to landfill solution. Our commitment to continuous sustainable improvement led us to achieve the Planet Mark with the help of Planet First. We are delighted to be the first recycling and waste management company to achieve the certification and look forward to using this to help our customers, and ourselves, reach our sustainability targets.”

Anthony Egbokhan, Strategic Environmental Manager, Bywaters

Having visited their Materials Recovery Facility in February we got a fascinating insight into what happens to rubbish after it is thrown away.

Bywaters will be hosting a series of visits to their Materials Recovery Facilities to help other Planet Mark organisations understand and improve the process of recycling.

Cool Earth partners with The Planet Mark

You all already know how fantastic we think Cool Earth are, mitigating carbon for Planet Mark certified buildings, protecting endangered rainforest and working with indigenous rainforest communities, but just when we thought they couldn’t be any better they have announced new exciting developments.

This year Cool Earth is aiming to raise £120,000 over three days through the Big Give. This money would save 56,000 acres of endangered forest.

Donating during these three days through the Big Give means that not only are you donating to a brilliant charity but that up to the first £5000 of your donation gets match funded. Your donation gets doubled so that double the amount of rainforest can be protected.

“This Christmas you have the chance to transform the future of a rainforest village. The Big Give Christmas Challenge will mean Cool Earth can place more forest out of the chainsaw’s reach more rapidly than ever before. Please join us.” Matthew Owen, Director, Cool Earth

Businesses become rainforest rescuers

Office Coffee Company, certified by The Planet Mark, helps businesses protect rainforest through Cool Earth

The Office Coffee Company, a Planet Mark certified organisation, has become a fast-growing sensation, allowing other businesses to improve the quality of their office coffee and save acres of rainforest just by installing a new coffee machine.

Working across London and the UK, The Office Coffee Company is providing businesses with drinks machines that dispense Cool Earth charity’s rainforest saving coffee. With every purchase, up to 5 trees are saved in the rainforest.

The three-year-old company has recently acquired new business with Lidl and Battersea Power Station, London.

So far, The Office Coffee Company’s customers have saved 330,000 acres of endangered rainforest. Their clients, which include leading worldwide brands Diesel and Mulberry, have been responsible for the protection of 59, 981 trees.

Managing Director, Richard Doherty says, “The Office Coffee Company firmly believes in ethically sourced products. We believe that every business has the responsibility to do what they can to protect the environment and what better way to do this than with a coffee whilst at work?”

“We want to turn the U.K into a country of rainforest rescuers. Our aim for 2020 is to have saved 200,000 trees. If businesses chose Cool Earth tea and coffee as part of their office supplies, the long-term benefits for the Amazon rainforest and climate change will be phenomenal.” he added.

The Office Coffee Company invites readers to have a free audit to find out how many acres of rainforest their company could save. Visit their website here : www.office-coffee.co.uk/rainforest-protection.html

Planet First also supports Cool Earth. Through our work with clients, The Planet Mark has saved many acres and supported community-led projects in the Peruvian Amazon. To read more about Planet First and Cool Earth please click here.

Spread the word on Sustainability with this new video!

By ThePlanetMark Friday, October 31, 2014

Yesterday evening over 100 businesses gathered in Arlington Conference Centre, Camden to consider the need for leadership in sustainability.

The speakers gave lively and thought provoking talks, encouraging guests to get involved in sustainability and what is more, to think about the environment on a wider scale, completely threading sustainability through each business.

The message came across loud and clear; now is time to start, improve or upscale business sustainability efforts and do this for two reasons. The first is to save money and carbon; businesses certified by The Planet Mark save an average of 5% on both these factors annually. The second, to do this because it is your responsibility as a citizen.

The Planet Mark video ‘CEOs on Sustainability’, filmed and produced by Casual Films was screened for the first time, including key voices from the business world including Adam Elman, Marks and Spencer, Jason Cotterell, Exterion Media, Sue Walter, The Hospital Club, John Glover, Bywaters and Barnaby Cook, Casual Films.

Watch and share the video now! Why not spread the word on sustainability and host this video on your website as well? If you would like to do this please get in touch with Camilla (camilla.oelman@planetfirst.co.uk)
