The Launch of The Planet Mark at The Hospital Club, Covent Garden

Friday, September 27, 2013

The Planet Mark, a new sustainability certification scheme for Eden Project and Planet First, launched at The Hospital Club, Covent Garden on Tuesday 24th September with guest speaker Sir Tim Smit KBE, co-founder of Eden Project, who challenged the 200 guests to become leaders of sustainability in business.

“The real buy in is in having the bravery to be part of the journey, forming a team, a gang, sharing and learning together to get on to the next place.”

There was a great response to this call to action, which was shown partly through the contributions to ‘the wishing trees’. From these, the guests hung challenges to sustainability, suggested other businesses that may wish to be part of the network and also showed their interest in signing up to The Planet Mark.

The turnout was excellent and included many exciting businesses such as Jamie’s Ministry of Food, Jones Lang Lasalle (JLL), Unilever, Deloitte and Land Securities to name just a few. From various sectors, these like-minded organisations were brought together and connections were created.

Guest speaker, Geoff Andrew, CEO Margolis Office Environments described how Margolis had used The Planet Mark as well as explaining how the certification programme spoke to the ever more environmentally conscious younger generations, who truly value the aims of The Planet Mark. Sir Tim Smit endorsed this idea, asking guests to consider what future generations would ask of us, and expect us to have done.

The key message highlighted was that the time to act is now, and thanks to The Planet Mark programme, there is a way for all to realise these actions.

Special thanks must be said to the wonderful sponsors of the event, The Hospital Club, GMI Construction, PLB, Ambius, V2 and Gary Martyniak for all of their help and support.
